One of the biggest parts of academic writing, besides the material being written, is the formatting of the piece. There are quite a few different formats that are used for essay writing. The most common formats are APA and MLA format. However, other formats ae used too, and it would be wise to learn them so that you will not be tripped up if given a different format to write in. So, to help you with that here is a comprehensive guide to writing in the Chicago Style format.
For starters, the title of the paper will begin one-third down the pager. The title is not supposed to be bolded of underlined, and it should be centered as well. The title of your paper should be in all caps. Then, two-thirds down the page you will put you name, which will be centered. Keeping the page centered, below your name will go the number of your course, then the name of your instructor, and then below that is the date. The format of the day needs to be in the following order:
The most mistakes in formatting are made when it comes time to do the bibliography portion of the assignment. Once you get the hang of it, you will be able to do it with ease. The first part of a bibliography in Chicago Style is the title of the page, which can be as simple as just “Bibliography” or “references’” this title is to be centered as well. After the title is the start of the entries of sources. The entries should be listed in alphabetical order by last name and single-spaced, except for the spaced between entries. The space between entries should be double-spaced. With each entry, do not indent the first line, but indent all of the lines after the first one.
At the end of you quote(s) goes an in-text citation that gives credit to the author of the source you are using. The structure of the citation starts with the last name of the author or authors, the year the source was published, and then the page section of the source if it is available
For example: (Brown, 2015, section 13.)
